Jack Philips from Preston asked:
"I was recently having a discussion in my local gym about squats, the general consensus appeared to be that you shouldn't really squat below parallel as this is dangerous. Is this the case, or should I be doing full squats?"
Here's what Dave says:
"For many people this is a very emotive topic and one which I have discussed with many colleagues and athletes over the years. I have always coached squats to as full a range as anatomically possible for each individual. If done correctly these are not dangerous, on the contrary, they are more beneficial for joint health and integrity than partial squats. The knee is a hinge joint and the hinge needs to be closed. For those individuals who can not achieve a full squat a series of flexibility and mobility exercises should be undertaken to achieve full range. I hope this answers your query Jack!!"
