ASK DAVE ARCHIVED ARTICLES

Jack Peterson from Croydon asked:

"I am often being told that resting between sets is very important, but nobody seems to be able to tell me how long I should be resting for.  Are you able to shed any light on the matter for me?"

Here's what Dave says:

"You are right Jack rest is very imporant, I am always telling my athletes they must 'Respect the Rest'.  As a general rule the amount of rest that you take in between your sets depends on the aim of the session.  If your work out is aimed at hypertrophy, then your rest should be between 30 and 90 seconds.  If you're training for maximum strength, your rest should be between 2 and 3 minutes.  While, if your training is for Maximum power, yor rest should be between 3 and 5 minutes.  I hope this helps Jack!!"
